Jagad Raya: Representation of Flora and Fauna in Wooden Craft From A Cosmological Perspective

The art of teak wood carving was one the leading export commodities, especially carvings with flora and fauna motifs. Javanese culture Hindu mythology influenced motifs, so they had their meanings. This research aimed to develop motifs inspired by classic batik using media. results showed that media used a finishing process without painting produce natural color. It adjusted its function use in creating carvings. Wood did not only be enjoyed for aesthetic value but as decorative sacred medium where each motif influences one's beliefs when artwork. In addition, were symbols culture, designed often contained meaning teachings humans carrying out life. Based on economic aspect, woodcarving industry strategically improved community's income, craftsmen tourism centers. By making crafts it hoped would objects, an educational fine art, history, which full broader community could increase knowledge encourage people behave following concept cosmology.
